The Nightly Live: Breakfast with Katherine Bennell-Pegg

WHEN: May 27, 2026 at 7:00 am

WHERE: Crown Perth, Great Eastern Highway, Burswood WA, Australia

Join us as the incumbent Australian of the Year shares her insights into leadership and uplifting the next generation in STEM education.

As Australia’s first astronaut, Katherine Bennell-Pegg has been a trailblazer for several years.

Chosen from a field of more than 22,000 applicants, Bennell-Pegg finished her basic astronaut training in 2024 in a class of six. Having dreamt of being an astronaut since she was a child, Bennell-Pegg is passionate about raising awareness of and championing Australia’s emerging space program – and creating new opportunities, particularly for young women.

A leader in one of Australia’s most exciting yet least understood industries, she believes in the love of ideas to solve problems and thinking deeply about having the courage to aspire.

Presented by ECU, this exclusive breakfast is proudly endorsed by the International Space Centre (ISC) and the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR), who recognise Katherine’s journey as a pivotal moment for Australia’s space capability, research, and global leadership.
