ICRAR Node University of Western Australia
Unit Code Enrol at UWA in PHYS4415 or PHYS5512 (consult with the UWA Astronomy & Astrophysics Coordinator)
Offering Semester 1
Content This unit will provide the student with a broad and thorough understanding of the observed properties of galaxies and the key physical processes affecting their evolution and dynamics. Topics include: galactic structure and morphology, distance indicators, scaling relation, large scale structures and environmental effects.
Learning Outcomes
  1. By the end of the unit the student should be able to read and understand most journal papers on extragalactic astronomy
Assessment Indicative assessments in this unit are as follows: (1) assignments and projects and (2) final examination. Further information is available in the unit outline.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit.
