The future European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT) will be the world’s largest optical-IR telescope for several decades to come. Thus, it will be part of the landscape of astronomical facilities in which the SKA will operate. In this talk we will give an overview of the E-ELT and its capabilities. I will present the current status of the project, review the E-ELT science case from the perspective of synergies with the SKA, and then focus on some science unique to the E-ELT.
