This talk provides a summary of the observations carried out towards the Galactic centre (GC) region in different wavebands with the Giant Metrewave radio telescope (GMRT) in India leading to interesting results.
These include
- Detection of Sgr A* at 610 MHz which provided its relative location with respect to the HII region Sgr A West,
- HI absorption and distances of three non-thermal filaments in the region,
- Confirmation of 13 supernova remnants (SNRs) in the GC region, which were earlier identified as candidate SNRs in the MOST 840 MHz GC survey, and
- Detection of circularly polarised emission from the transient bursting radio source GCRT J1745-3009 at 325 MHz.
