Henk Koopmans will talk about the ubiquity of sensors in our modern life and the principles of sensor technology. He will describe the "Sensor Universe" initiative in The Netherlands and outline some of its current projects in areas such as water systems and power grid management. Henk has a particular interest in "organized coincidences" between science (including astronomy), education and business, and he will describe the role of Sensor Universe in initiating and supporting key linkages.
Henk Koopmans has been an entrepreneur since 1976 and is a Chartered Accountant with interests in companies dealing with computer hardware, software and integrated systems. He has been involved in facilitating the establishment of LOFAR in the northern Netherlands and is a keen supporter of the SKA project. Henk recently visited South Africa and on this visit is seeking to expand his understanding of Australian initiatives associated with the SKA and to look for potential overlaps between Dutch and Australian interests.
